  • Great content but poor app

    By ATXDavidG
The content of this magazine is excellent. This recent app update is pretty poor. They seem to have fixed the crashing issue that was pretty chronic in the last version. However this version has introduced several new problems. Content is very slow to load. There are frequent spinning wait cursors throughout the magazine at seemingly random spots. What’s worse, sharing is completely broken. Occasionally the shared link will direct the recipient to the right article but usually the shared link simply points to the app itself which is useless. Additionally, there are places in the magazine (like quotes) that don’t support selecting and copying text. All things considered, I’d rather have bugs and foibles of the prior version. I’m tired of being a beta tester for basic functionality. Update. Many months after I posted this, everyone is reporting the same basic usability problems. I discontinued my digital subscription and went back to print.

Cannot open downloaded content in latest iteration.
  • The Week app is now terrible

    By da Drizzler
Update 9/21/18: App is still bad. Content is good as always but the app is so much worse from before I’m highly considering letting my subscription lapse after 10+ years. Hey “The Week” look at the reviews. That can’t be good for business. Maybe try listening to customers? Sad to see such a great app drop so hard. Hope you guys can get it together. Update: Still terrible. You can no longer share articles. Instead it sends a link that says check out this article from the week but when they click on it it just sends them to the App Store instead of actually showing the article you wanted to share. Bait and switch method, total garbage. Still can’t highlight words to look up within articles. Layout is still bad. Looks like a high school yearbook level of professionalism. Very close to canceling subscription. I’m a long time reader of the Week for over 10 years. Before the latest update the app was perfectly fine. Now it’s worse in almost every way. The layout is terrible, you can’t select words to look up on an iPad, it’s harder to navigate, and they took away cool features like being able to see the pin points on the map where stories originated from. It’s like some marketing dudes at the Week said it’s about time for a complete app overhaul, just because! So they changed it for the sake of change while not improving anything. Please go back to the other format.
  • Hope you take these criticisms to heart. People are giving good feedback

    My title says all
  • Last Big Upgrade Still Attrocious

    By ReviewerBJ
Same comment as everyone else - content is incredibly good, the app is inexcusably terrible. I’ve been patiently waiting for improvements since the major upgrade months ago, to no avail. And please stop telling us how hard you’re working on improving things - I’m a software developer and there are some fundamental changes that would fix things that I know would take no more than a few weeks for dev, QA, and release, even if you have 1 person maintaining this app. All you need to do with a magazine app is make it easy to read and easy to get back to where you were. Everything else is fluff. Make it easy to read: The old app was SO much easier to navigate, but let’s say we ignore the part of downloading and opening your magazine. At least make the reading of it up to par. Fix the display size to match the device (it still doesn’t stretch to fit an iPhone X). Find another place to put those huge icon buttons taking up way too much space at the top. Have dark mode actually make the whole screen dark, not just the text. Fix the delayed loading of pages - I mean, if you really have to delay rendering (and I don’t know why you do) at least render 2-3 pages ahead, or do the whole thing in the background while I’m reading. And make it easy to get back to where you were: For the love of all that is holy, it has been people’s complaint in reviews for _years_. Fix the problem with opening the app back up to the last page you were on. I mean, do these things really need to be pointed out? And REPEATED? Get it right. If you’re starting with a good magazine, which you are, you have to actively try to get an app rating less than 4. I and countless others are left baffled.
  • Can’t read articles

The magazine downloads, but I can’t access any content. I just get the buffering wheel of death.
  • Used to be so much better

    By Dantreeman
I love the magazine but the app was revamped last year and represents a substantial degradation. The app used to: 1) save your place between readings; 2) allow zooming on photos; and 3) allow saving of articles. Now it does none of these things. These days I take the physical magazine with me when I can. So much for modern convenience.
  • At least it’s not just me...

update 8 27 2018: I have to eat my words. : we seem to have adjusted to one another and it’s all good. Mar 2018: ( 1 star) I really enjoy The Week on Friday’s. Or I did. The new mobile app is impossible. When it’s finally available. And then it’s clunky to navigate. Everything about it is just awful
  • When is app finally going to be fixed? A great publication is absolutely now unreadable...

Please let me and your other loyal subscribers know.
  • Horrible

New app is just terrible. The layout of the issue is poor. In addition I can't take up where I left off reading which I could do before. I used to love the digital more than the print now zi hate it. Also cannot copy and paste a line or anything. And cannot give a link to someone
